Outposts Directors DD & Michael Kingscote encounter Meerkats in Kalahari Desert, Botswana on their trip to Africa

Outposts Directors DD & Michael Kingscote (and Meerkats!), Kalahari Desert, Botswana

Outposts DD Kingscote, founder and director of Outposts Travel Africa and her husband, Colonel Michael Kingscote, (MD of Outposts) have returned from an amazing 21-day familiarisation visit to: Zambia (Victoria Falls), Zimbabwe and Botswana.

DD, director and founder of Outposts Travel Africa says:

Michael and I have just spent nearly 3 glorious weeks on a ‘familiarisation’ trip in Zambia, Zimbabwe and Botswana. We were looking at locations, logistics and meeting suppliers.

We travelled far, met delightful people, learnt a great deal, took lots of photos and have returned invigorated by the sun to icy winds and snow! A rude awakening to real life back in the office!

You cannot visit every location as Africa is vast, but you can get a good impression of many locations and standards by travelling through. By experiencing it for yourself, you get a first-hand “feel” (an important sense when referring to Africa) of some of the camps and lodges. You build a picture of where they are located, how to get there, the standards of guiding, the character of the rooms, the food and what activities are on offer. Sometimes we saw 3 or 4 places a day, staying in a new lodge each night.

We wrote a blog whilst travelling, a difficult task due to lack of communications in far flung places … these being the sort of places Michael and I enjoy best. We tried to see locations that fit different budgets as a safari to Africa can be expensive but you do not always have to stay at première camps to get the best experience. Being adventurous or doing without air con and electricity can take you to the very best of Africa.
